Love this. It's so easy to do something that feels productive and call it a day, but you're just avoiding the stuff that actually matters.

Useful procrastination is probably the easiest kind to defend to yourself.

Thanks for this Daniel! The comfort zone is an easy place to be, but almost never where true growth occurs!

Thanks Alex. Mine has changed over the years too. I keep finding new respectable places to hide 😅

Love the framing here. I was suffering from the same disease for a while..I found myself being more the architect and the troubleshooter and less on the sales making money part during Q1 of this year...it was worth going through this though..

The annoying part is how productive it all feels while you’re doing it. 🫣

There’s always another spreadsheet available when you don’t fancy the awkward call. 😅

AI has definitely made it easier to keep building forever

You can now procrastinate at incredible speed. 💨

Being busy with work you are good at feels responsible, which makes the avoidance much harder to recognise. Sometimes the most valuable task is simply having the customer conversation you keep postponing.

I’ve spent entire afternoons doing perfectly useful work that somehow wasn’t the work I was avoiding. 🫣

We’ve all had those afternoons 😅 Very productive, just somehow productive in every direction except the one that matters most.

The hardest work usually has the least satisfying feedback loop

Productivity can become a very convincing form of avoidance when we stay busy with what feels comfortable.

Daniel Ionescu's avatar

That’s why it can be hard to catch. You’ve been busy all day, so it doesn’t feel like avoidance.

Being busy and being effective are not always the same, especially when the uncomfortable work gets postponed.

I know I’m avoiding something when I suddenly become extremely interested in clearing smaller jobs first.
